Situation:
I first had a problem with my back in 1972, after doing chores around the house. I was unable to do much of anything and it was almost impossible to do things I love, like gardening or everyday activities around the house. I had to pace myself because I would tire easily from the pain and burning sensation I experienced in my lower back and legs. It was hard to sleep at night because I couldn’t get into a comfortable position. In the morning my pain was worse. I had to get up extra early in the morning to get dressed for work so I wouldn’t be late. Before the surgery, I could not even enjoy a bath because it was too hard to get in and out of the bathtub. At work, I did a lot of sitting and bending, and this did not help. I had to retire in 2004, but even then there was no change.
I went back and forth to doctors and eventually had surgery in the region of the lower lumbar area by another physician. For a few years after surgery I was fine, but then I started having the same symptoms again. I was in and out of physical therapy for a period of ten years, taking pain medication and having injections. Nothing worked any more.
Solution:
I was referred to NJ Spine Center. After reviewing my MRI, it was determined that I had scoliosis and a degenerative disc. After discussion, we decided to surgically remove the old hardware from the previous procedure, as it was causing my spine to be misaligned in the shape of an “S.”
Though it was rough right after surgery, it was worth it. I have improved so much. I am able to do a little gardening because I can kneel now. I can make a complete meal without having to sit down. I can clean my house and take care of my personal needs without pain.
What Makes NJ Spine Different?
The staff at NJ Spine Center is very professional and very caring. Physical therapy at MSI has helped. They are the best – very understanding, patient, and thorough.
