Non-union of the Spine

Spinal fusion is the attempt to fuse one vertebral body to another by strategically placing bone fragments and catalysts to encourage natural bone growth. In some cases, the spine does not fully fuse, resulting in continued motion rather than a solid fusion which eliminates the painful micro-motion. This is known as psuedoarthrosis, or nonunion.

The most common symptom of a non-union is back or neck pain.

Typically, these fusions can be successfully revised surgically.
